May 10 Group Meeting

Tuesday, May 10, 2022
5:00 p.m.

Our May group meeting takes a look at the issue of human trafficking in our communities and the world. Together we will learn about the prevalence and impact of human trafficking and work together to address challenges presented by two local organizations, Action 169 and Terebinth Refuge, who are working to bring hope, healing, and freedom to sexually exploited and trafficked individuals. They will each present a current challenge facing their ministries and invite you to help brainstorm ideas to propel them forward. Read more about their work below.

Our musical guest, Laurie Kallevig is the founder of Survivor Girl Ukulele Band, a Minnesota based ministry bringing restoration and hope to survivors of human trafficking in India through the healing power of music and love. You will have the opportunity to join the band, both literally and figuratively, as Laurie leads us through a group ukulele exercise and shares about her work. Thank you to Schmitt Music for your generous donation of ukulues to be used during this meeting and distributed to girls served by Survivor Girl Ukulele Band!

We will also hear from Carter Staaf, a Detective with the Eden Prairie Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit. He currently works with detectives, prosecutors, and advocates around the metropolitan area in the fight against sex trafficking. In 2016, Carter and his detective colleagues from southwest Hennepin County formed the 494 Human Trafficking Task Force. This team utilizes investigative strength to attack sex trafficking through victim recovery, law enforcement, and education.
