Banyan Community is rooted in the Phillips neighborhood to transform lives by developing youth, strengthening families, and creating community. As a community development organization we are able to work at all three levels to bring about lasting and transformational change. Our youth are graduating from high school at 100% (twice the average in the City of Minneapolis), parents are learning to be advocates for their children in education & health, and our community building programs are creating social capital and breaking down the isolation that many families in poverty experience.
Banyan Community has a great opportunity to tell their story through a traveling exhibit of their children’s art, but need Barnabas partners help to maximize the impact. Currently, the annual display includes a group banner and 12-15 individual artist canvases and artist statements (their thoughts and reflections around a common theme). Specifically, Banyan is asking Barnabas partners:
- How might we best use the art exhibit to inspire others to learn about and tell the story of Banyan?
Following Banyan’s presentation, Barnabas partners put their time, talents and connections to work for this inspiring ministry. Feedback included:
- Partners provided suggestions to enhance their art exhibit and create awareness for their organization.
- Over a dozen connections for potential venues for the display were provided.
- One partner offered to use his office as a location of a “meet the artist” event and was excited to create a relationship with Banyan and the families they serve.
